On Thursday morning, Japan Airlines reported a cyberattack on its website, warning that the incident could disrupt airline services, according to Reuters. However, officials stated that there were no significant service issues initially.

The company announced on its official Twitter account that the cyberattack occurred at 7:24 a.m. The issue was attributed to malware infiltrating the system through an outdated router, which prevented ticket purchases throughout the day.

Japan's national broadcaster NHK reported that while the cyberattack caused some flight schedule changes, no flights were canceled. Additionally, there were no widespread ticket cancellations.

Japan Airlines, the nation’s second-largest airline after Nippon Airlines, provides extensive air services across the country. This is not the first such incident in Japan. In 2022, Toyota experienced a cyberattack that severely disrupted vehicle sales. Similarly, in 2023, a cyberattack on Japan's Space Research Center resulted in significant document losses.

Experts caution that such cyberattacks are likely to increase in the future, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance and preventive measures.
